A Level

In order to access this qualification you should have attained a grade A or above in GCSE Classical Greek.

During Year 12 you will develop your linguistic competency, gaining further practice in translating from Greek to English, meeting sentences of greater length and complexity as well as learning the perfect and the pluperfect tenses. You will also gain some experience of translating from English into Greek as well as reading a selection of Greek literature, which will help you develop your skills of literary analysis and your appreciation of both prose and verse literature.

In addition to developing your language skills, you will also develop your analytical, evaluative and literary criticism skills, and your ability to structure a logical and persuasive argument.

THE A LEVEL COMPRISES FOUR PAPERS:

  • Unseen translation (33%)
  • Prose composition or comprehension (17%)
  • Prose literature (25%)
  • Verse literature (25%)
