The success of our Boarding community has been an enriching part of Loughborough Grammar School for much of its long history. Our School was founded in 1495, making us one of the oldest schools in the United Kingdom.
In addition to our traditions and heritage, we are forward facing and prepare young men for life in the twenty-first century. There are opportunities for teamwork, leadership, public speaking and mentoring: essential skills for the modern world. Our students are busy and active. In the last year, they have captained the basketball team, delivered speeches in debating society, taught Chinese to non-native speakers, volunteered in an elderly peoples’ home, presented inventions at national Engineering competitions– the possibilities are far reaching and countless. Our School is renowned for these co-curricular experiences which will not only develop your son’s character, but further their ability to talk about themselves when applying to university and interviews for future careers. It is our aim that our Boarders will leave us aged 18 with confidence in their ability, ambition to do their best and ready to make a difference in the world.
Our focus on academic excellence is facilitated by specialist teachers, academic enrichment seminars, masterclasses and support sessions. Our UCAS coordinator provides university application guidance, and we have bespoke training sessions for Oxbridge candidates and aspiring medics, veterinary science and dental students. In 2023, we celebrated the success of our A level Boarding students with 59% achieving grades A-A* in their final exams and going on to study at top universities, including the University of Cambridge, Durham and Manchester.
The setting of Loughborough makes for a beautiful home for Boarders. We live in a quiet school campus with open, green playing fields. In their free time, Boarders only need to walk 5 minutes to visit the centre of Loughborough, a thriving university town. Boys feel safe and welcome in the intimate town setting, but still have plenty of choice when it comes to shops, restaurants and cafes. We are nestled between Leicester and Nottingham, meaning we have access to two premiership football teams and Trent Bridge cricket club. Our central location means that we are 1 hour 20 minutes from London by train and are close to major airports.
