Cross County Championships

Loughborough High School Year 11 student, Indie King, triumphed last weekend at the under 17’s Leicestershire and Rutland Schools, County Cross Country Championships at Ratcliffe College. In the individual race, Indie came away with the gold medal and also helped to bring the LHS Girls’ Team back into gold position.

The individual race did not disappoint, with the leading year 10 runner pressurising Indie for the first 3Km of the 4.5Km course. However, Indie looked comfortable all the way and allowed her competitor to run in her ‘slip stream’ for the first part of the race. Following her race plan perfectly, Indie pulled away when they reached the woods, increasing her pace over the last 1.5km, winning easily with a good 50-60 metres to spare. Fabulous tactics and running from Indie, who was ‘in control’ from start to finish. By winning this race, Indie has qualified for the English Schools Cross Country National Finals in Liverpool, on 14 March. By winning first place, this not only gives her the Schools Cross Country final ‘title’ but also (and more importantly for Indie) ensures that the front position in ‘the pens’ is hers. This will give her a clear, free run at the start of the race. Huge congratulations to Indie on this magnificent win, we now look towards March in Liverpool and hopefully another potential England vest!
