Welcome to Loughborough High School
One of our sixth formers said to me recently that here at LHS, we are creating the young women that the future needs. Looking up, our Year 7 pupils see in the older girls their leaders, their role models and their future selves. They see no limits on female aspiration as they watch our Year 13s go on to become astrophysicists, architects, actors and artists, and they benefit from an inspiring and culturally diverse network of alumnae who regularly return to share their wisdom as women in the world of work and entrepreneurship.
There has never been a more important time to focus upon the experience of young women and as experts in girls’ education, we guarantee that your daughter will not only be heard but listened to. Our caring, committed staff are skilled in bringing out the best in girls and in creating the conditions in which girls can thrive both academically and personally. Our pupils achieve some of the best academic results in the region but we see this as the happy by-product of a broad, well-rounded and stimulating education rather than an end in itself.
What makes us unique is that our vibrant, girl-friendly community sits at the heart of a foundation of four closely-linked schools situated in beautiful grounds near the centre of town. Our pupils therefore enjoy a richness and variety of opportunity, mixing with boys and girls from Loughborough Grammar School and Loughborough Amherst School through joint music ensembles, drama performances, trips and visits. In the sixth form, many of our A level classes are co-educational, and all pupils take part in our joint enrichment programme, so that they really do experience the “best of both” during their seven years with us.
With a top-ranking university on our doorstep, we are able to tap into a rich intellectual, creative and sporting world beyond our campus. Our newly configured cross-foundation sports department boasts some of the best athletes in the country including international netball, basketball, cricket and hockey players, and we have numerous connections in the fields of STEM and the arts.
I joined the school just over two years ago and love the energy, warmth and sense of fun that defines our community. I could not be prouder of the way that pupils and staff have risen to the challenges of the pandemic, from providing an outstanding virtual learning experience to developing student-led wellbeing initiatives. Now that we are back on site, I love watching the spontaneous games of football and cricket on the lawn outside my office, hearing the unselfconscious laughter at break and lunch, and seeing the freedom that girls have to simply enjoy being girls.
I do hope that you will visit us soon to experience all of this for yourself. I will be delighted to meet you in person.
Busy, productive and fun
Founded in 1850 as one of the country’s oldest grammar schools for girls, we are proud of our rich history and maintain some wonderful traditions which enrich life in our girls only day school.
But if that conjures a picture of a typically competitive and overly studious selective school, nothing could be further from the truth.
The place positively fizzes with energy. Our most important role is to ensure your daughter enjoys her time with us, because we believe success is built on personal happiness and a sense of wellbeing in the embrace of a warm and welcoming community.no
A girl’s only school in a richly diverse campus
Being a single-sex school means our girls can relax and be themselves without feeling self-conscious or being distracted.
But here, uniquely, ‘girls only’ doesn’t mean total isolation from boys. With a boy’s Grammar and Amherst co-ed School on campus our pupils mix happily on journeys to School, in Drama, Music and selected studies, particularly in Sixth Form. It is a 'best of both worlds' which benefits everyone.no
Feeling at home at school
We work hard to ensure that each one of our students feels understood and valued, in an environment that is both friendly and respectful.
The girls your daughter meets will be her supporters not her rivals and pupils know we are always there for them to nurture their confidence and help them work through any challenges with warmth & understanding.yes It’s as though they have lessons in happiness
Our smaller class sizes, superb teaching, well-resourced departments and an overall environment that encourages enquiry and curiosity create the conditions where your daughter can do her very best.
Our outstanding academic results and remarkable STEM successes are testament to the dedication of our teachers and the willingness of our pupils to develop their learning skills.yes They’re not typical teachers. You can talk to them
So much more than another department, Loughborough Schools Music is the joyous soundtrack that infuses life at all the Schools within the Foundation.
Housed in a purpose-built space, it is a vibrant musical hub with a constant creative buzz. From Pre-Prep to Sixth Form, every pupil has the opportunity, encouragement and very finest tuition to explore their musical passions, achieve their very best and perform at the highest level.
By any measure, facilities are outstanding. We are proud to be the only Schools in the Midlands to have a Music department with ‘All-Steinway School’ status and we have a huge variety of instrumental ensembles and choirs so every pupil gets to ‘strut their stuff’ on one stage or another. Do come to see and hear us. It really is something quite special.no
A veritable selection box of opportunity
We believe breadth in education is the key to developing young people who are intellectually fulfilled, healthy and happy.
Opportunity is our answer. Whatever your daughter’s talents and interests, all our girls are encouraged to express themselves and enjoy as wide a range of experiences a possible, from the sports field and stage to music, the arts and any number of clubs, trips and exciting challenges.no
An all-round education for rounded and grounded girls
We are an active and outgoing School that helps your daughter to develop intellectual curiosity and an equal curiosity with the wider world.
Enrichment programmes beyond the School include fundraising, volunteering and engagement with the local community which are invaluable in developing our girls’ self-awareness and social conscience.yes It’s the least snobby school I’ve been to. There’s an incredible level of care and sensitivity to pastoral needs
We are part of The Loughborough Schools Foundation
Uniquely, we share our beautiful campus with the two other Senior Schools, Prep Schools and a Nursery which make up the Loughborough Schools Foundation family.Find out more about The Foundation
