Back to Grammar School Sport

We recently took some time to do a fair amount of soul searching about the role of sport. This year alone we have boys achieving individual international success and our teams have got to the later stages of national competitions. However when posed with the question ‘what is our vision of sport’ we knew what it was but perhaps couldn’t articulate it and definitely hadn’t stated it.

These discussions and research have led us to the following:

In the lower school we will use sport to

PROMOTE PARTICIPATION AND INCLUSION
DEVELOP POSITIVE ATTITUDES
PROMOTE A VALUE DRIVEN CULTURE THAT INSPIRES

Which progresses from year 10 to

STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE AND ACHIEVEMENT IN ALL THAT WE DO
LEARN FROM SUCCESS AND FAILURE
DEMONSTRATE A DETERMINATION TO SUCCEED

Our aim is that these are not just redundant phrases on a website but rather shape the fundamental principles of what we do.

We want our pupils to be the best sportsman that they can be but also, just as importantly, use these experiences and skills outside of the ‘white lines’. All members of our community: coaches, pupils and parents have a role to play in this. I hope therefore that you will take the time to read with your son the attached ‘Fundamentals of Sport’ on the link to the left which explains what our expectations are and how we want our vision to be translated into action.
