Joan Davis Bursary

We are thrilled to launch the Joan Davis Bursary to provide an opportunity for a deserving Sixth Form student from a modest background to join Loughborough High School in September 2022 to study Science or Maths at A Level.

Joan Davis (nee Hancock) attended Loughborough High School between 1946 and 1953 with her best friends Doreen MacLean (nee Frost) and Margaret Marr (nee Morris). Loughborough High School held a special place in her heart and Joan and Margaret visited the School in 2013 to acknowledge their 60th anniversary of leaving.

Joan’s family said, “We wanted a meaningful, living memorial to a loving wife and mother who was a vital part of our lives. A Bursary for the school Joan attended, that gave her a firm foundation for the life-skills she developed and with so many happy memories seemed to meet all our requirements exactly.”

Dr Fiona Miles said, “I am delighted Joan’s family have formally established the Joan Davis Bursary to transform a young person’s life. We are enormously grateful to our donors within the alumni community whose charitable giving enables us to provide girls from all backgrounds with the opportunity to make their mark in the world. One of our sixth formers said to me recently that here at LHS, we are creating the young women that the future needs. Philanthropy means that we can make the biggest impact possible.”
