The eagerly anticipated, annual Year 7 rugby tour to Blackpool took place in March with 40 boys in attendance for the fun, as well as the rugby matches.

The long-standing Loughborough Grammar tradition saw a record number of boys selected to attend, on the basis of their commitment to attending training and fixtures during the Autumn term.

Day one kicked off with a match against Lancaster Royal Grammar School, who hold a reputation for being one of the strongest rugby schools in the Northwest. Despite not winning their matches, all three Loughborough Grammar teams played very well.

The loss was quickly forgotten the following day which was filled with rollercoasters and candy floss at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, and an evening at the Blackpool Arcades, where an uncountable number of 2p pieces met their fate.

Unfortunately, on the final day the second fixture verses Kirkham Grammar School was cancelled due to waterlogged pitches. But whilst the pitches were dampened, spirits were not, and the boys spent the morning playing football and digging holes on Blackpool beach, followed by a couple of hours in the Sandcastle Water Park.

Mr Jeremy Parton, Head of Year 7 at Loughborough Grammar School said: “Throughout the three days the boys were superb ambassadors for LGS. They all looked out for each other, and their enthusiastic approach to every activity was brilliant.”

The boys shared their experiences, with Archie saying: “The Pleasure Beach was amazing, the rides had so many twists and turns. The rugby match was great because it was really muddy, and the bowling afterwards was amazing. The arcade was so good, I hit the jackpot and won a speaker.”

Jake said:” The Big One ride was a great experience, as I was sat at the front of the ride being suspended in mid air. Then we had a massive drop.  This was my highlight of the Blackpool rugby tour as I was with my friends having a great time going on lots of rollercoasters.”

Amaury added: “A great tour to be with friends and to have a great time. The best of the best opportunities to thrive in rugby.”
