On Thursday 14 October, Year 11, 12 and 13 RAF cadets travelled to RAF Museum Cosford. After a 90 minute bus ride, all the cadets were raring to go into the museum and improve their aviation and background service knowledge. Firstly, we began our visit by going into the test aircraft hanger with the star of the show undoubtedly being the mach 2 capable TSR2. Next, we went into the WW2 hanger, where we saw the legendary aircraft of the Battle of Britain: Spitfire, Hurricane and Messerschmidt BF109. After that, we headed into the National Cold War exhibit, which is the only place in the UK where you can see the UK’s three V bombers: the Vulcan, Victor and Valiant. In addition, we saw the iconic English Electric Lightning suspended from the ceiling. After this, the RAF cadets decided that it was time to buy some merchandise, with one Year 13 Sergeant picking up a rather extravagant pair of Red Arrows slippers. After Lunch, the RAF cadets marched on to Hangar 1, where they saw the German V1 and V2 missiles. The final activity of the day was a 4D flight experience which everyone enjoyed, before the tired cadets embarked on the long bus journey back to Loughborough.
