A new programme at the Loughborough Schools Foundation is providing exceptional rugby players with an enhanced and comprehensive training experience.

Thanks to some generous funding from Exigent Group Limited, a legal technology services company cofounded by David Holme, who attended Loughborough Grammar School until 1985, and Nicola Stott, the programme is aimed at rugby players from Year 10 upwards who have demonstrated outstanding skill on the pitch, as well as recognised dedication to the sport.

The programme now has 24 members who benefit from specialised training off the rugby pitch, including swimming training for cardiovascular fitness and early morning strength sessions at the gym. The funding has also supported the purchase of specialist camera equipment which enables video analysis of players’ techniques to help coaches identify where specific skills need refining.

Emyr Lewis, Head of Rugby at Loughborough Schools Foundation said: “As well as building physical strength, the biggest difference we have seen in the boys is in their mindset. This additional training time has brought the players closer together and every single player is taking rugby seriously. There is no doubt that the Player Pathway Scheme is clearly having a big impact on the players’ development.”

Exigent Group have also funded a new kit, specifically for those in the programme, which was presented to the boys by alumnus Matt Everard, Senior Academy Coach at Leicester Tigers, at a special event recognising the success of the scheme.

Matt said: “I left Loughborough Grammar School at 16 to pursue rugby because at the time, there wasn’t anything like this scheme in place. If the Player Pathway Programme had been around back then, I would have absolutely stayed. The boys are really lucky to have it.”

Emyr Lewis said: “The kit is a reward for the boys to recognise their hard work and commitment to rugby at the Loughborough Schools Foundation. They should wear it with pride and by wearing it, will act as an inspiration for younger players who will want to be selected to join the scheme.”

David Holme from Exigent Group Limited commented: “I hope that through the partnership with Exigent, the Player Pathway Programme can help the Loughborough Schools Foundation retain their best players and continue to attract elite players in the future. We’re proud to support the Foundation by helping it develop the boys’ rugby and team building skills, on and off the pitch.”

Freddie, from the First XV rugby team at Loughborough shares the difference the Rugby Player Pathway has made to the team: “This additional support has not only given me an opportunity to develop as on individual on my specific skills, but also it provided valuable time with the whole squad, giving us a great chance to evolve as a unit.”
