On Thursday last week, Loughborough Schools Music was honoured to host the Band of the RAF College, Cranwell for a joint concert with the Symphonic Wind Band (SWB). After weeks of preparation, the SWB travelled to RAF Cranwell on Wednesday 16 January for a joint rehearsal, where the RAF Musicians were astounded by the standard of Loughborough Schools’ musicians.

The concert last week: ‘A Night at the Movies’ was a real spectacle from start to finish with the SWB opening the concert, performing our very own ‘Loughburian’, followed by ‘The Magnificent Seven’, ‘Gladiators’ and ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’. The RAF then took over performing some great classic film scores such as ‘Dambusters’, ‘633 Squadron’, ‘Indiana Jones’ and ‘Tico Tico’ featuring an amazing trumpet solo. The two bands joined forces for the finale with Mr Geary taking the baton for ‘Jurassic Park’ and Mrs Watson leading the ensemble in the evocative theme from ‘The Band of Brothers’. Squadron Leader, Richard Murray brought the concert to a close with music from ‘The Incredibles’, the ‘RAF March Past’ and a selection from the recent box office hit ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

It was a truly wonderful musical evening and one that will live a long time in the memory of the musicians and audience alike.
