We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Christopher Barnett as our interim Head at Loughborough Grammar School. He will take up his appointment at the start of Autumn Term 2021.

Dr Christopher Barnett was a Lecturer in Economics at Brunel University, Head of History at Bradfield College, and Senior Deputy Head at Dauntsey’s School. As Headmaster, he led Whitgift, one of the country’s finest day and boarding schools for boys, with distinction for twenty-six years. He lives in Worcestershire, is a Governor and Chair of Education at Bromsgrove School in the West Midlands, and serves on the Boards of the English Symphony Orchestra and the Life Skills Haiti Foundation.

His outstanding record as an educationalist has been widely recognised. He was made a Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes académiques by the French government, in 2012, for his services to French education and culture, received a lifetime achievement award in the 2017 Independent Schools National Education Awards, and an MBE for services to education in 2018.

Dr Barnett’s wealth of experience will be of value to the Foundation as a whole, and his commitment to lead the Grammar School in the coming academic year will ensure the best possible preparation for an incoming Head to take up their post in September 2022.
