U11 Girls In2 Hockey Regional Finals

U11 Girls In2 Hockey Regional Finals featured image

After what can only be described as a very interesting and nerve wracking start to the day, the Year 6 girls finally arrived at Cannock with adrenaline levels slightly elevated but ready to put in one last strong performance. The group stage included five matches and as can be seen from the results below, the girls went from strength to strength. They displayed excellent teamwork, passing the ball with speed and accuracy and it wasn’t too long before they found the back of the net whilst maintaining a very strong defence.

Group matche results

Vs RGS Grange (Worcs) 4-0 win

Vs Bablake (Warks) 3-0 win

Vs Spratton Hall (N’hants) 4-1 win

Vs Shrewsbury High School (Shrops) 5-0 win Vs St Edwards (Staffs) 4-0 win

Topping the group meant that Fairfield now played the runners-up from pool 1 in the semi-finals. This match was against Bromsgrove and although the girls were slightly nervous to begin with, it did not take long for them to get into their rhythm and they were rewarded with a very well deserved 3-0 win.

This put the girls into the final against Spratton Hall. Having secured a fairly comfortable victory against them in the group stage, the team went into the match with plenty of confidence, determined to raise their game even higher. Continued pressure in the opposition’s goal area, brought about through fantastic build up play from defence, ensured we finished the game strongly and came out with an outstanding 7-0 victory to be crowned Regional Champions. At under 11, this is as far as this competition progresses, so an outstanding achievement for all the girls involved and a fitting way to end what has been such an incredible season for them all. Their commitment and enthusiasm for the game knows no bounds and they have been the best ambassadors that any School could wish for.

In addition, an enormous thank you must go to the parents who have come to all the matches and tournaments. They have given their unwavering support to the children whilst also providing me with endless cups of tea to quell my nerves and help me keep my voice! Finally, many thanks to Ms Nicol and Ms Gillard for their umpiring expertise and fabulous support, it’s been a great journey!
