The Fairfield Girls’ Under 11 hockey team travelled to Denstone College in Staffordshire to play in the school’s inaugural U11 tournament. There were eleven teams divided into two pools with the final being contested between the pool winners. With no margin for error, the girls set out with much to prove and once they settled into their rhythm, played with speed and skill. Victory in the first match allowed the girls to firmly set out their stall to the opposition and they went from strength to strength, securing strong wins which resulting in them topping their pool.

The final saw the team face Packwood Haugh in a much more tightly contested game. Despite going 1-0 down, the girls held their nerve and got a well deserved equaliser just before half time. In the second half Fairfield continued to work really hard for each other and played some super hockey. Their grit and determination was rewarded with two very well taken goals to make the final result an outstanding 3-1 win. The team were an absolute credit to the school and to each other and were thrilled to collect a beautiful winners’ trophy. A huge thank you to all the parents who made a very early start to come and support the girls in rather wet and wind conditions; it was definitely worth it!
