U10 Hockey Tournament

U10 Hockey Tournament featured image

On Wednesday a squad of 10 year 5 girls travelled to Leicester Grammar Junior School to play in their annual hockey tournament. The girls were excited to play against several new opponents. However in the first match they faced Ratcliffe College for the third time this season. The girls made a super start and with one of their first attacks of the game, a strong run on the right hand side to produce a great cross into the ‘D’ we scored. We continued to apply lots of pressure on the Ratcliffe defence but unfortunately several chances went just the wrong side of the goal. Ratcliffe took advantage of a fast break and scored to make the final result a 1-1 draw. The second game saw the girls face new opponents, Brooke Priory. Brooke set up a strong defence playing 3 at the back to keep our attackers at bay. Again the girls made an excellent start and scored within the first few minutes. Fairfield had the majority of the possession but Brooke looked very dangerous on the counter attack. The girls held their nerve and defended as a unit to hold on to the 1-0 victory. In the final group game we faced Stoneygate. The girls knew they needed to win to progress to the gold medal game. They rose to the challenge and scored 4 goals! This meant we faced Witham Hall in the final game. With a few tactical changes the girls started well and although Witham took an early lead we still created chances. With 2 minutes to go Witham won a penalty corner and scored with a fabulous strike. The final result was 2-0 to Witham. The girls have had a fabulous season and should be proud of the progress they have made as a squad. They can look forward to next year and hopefully add to their silverware. Thank you to the parents and Mrs Sutcliffe for their support. Mrs Webster
