On Friday 11 November, pupils, staff and invited guests joined together in their annual Remembrance Service to remember those who had lost their lives in past conflicts. Headmaster, Andrew Earnshaw led the tributes with a poignant address followed by Year 6 pupil, Asha King who beautifully read: In Flanders Field. With The Last Post playing, the flag was lowered to half-mast by Anna Wiggins to signal the beginning of a two minutes’ silence.

Lt. Col J W Doherty read For The Fallen by Laurence Binyon and assisted Connie Blair and Kian Chandarana with the laying of the wreath at the foot of the flagpole.

“They shall grow not old,

As we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn;

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,

We will remember them’.

It was a poignant service that also marked the occasion of Grandparent’s Day, in which Grandparents of Year 3 children were invited to the service and stayed for a sing-a-long session of wartime songs with their Grandchildren. After the singing, the Grandparents were encouraged to share stories, memories and memorabilia from the war.
