Opening of the Parsons Studio

The sun shone brightly this morning as the whole School gathered in the playground for an assembly with a difference, that started, most appropriately with the song ‘I can sing a rainbow’. Today marked the official opening of the refurbished art space for Upper Prep, and the excitement was tangible as Headmaster, Mr Andrew Earnshaw explained the history of the building that has had an interesting and varied life. Starting off as stables for the family who originally lived in the White house in 1823, the building also known as the Barn has given service over the years as a Dining room, art room, PE office and store room.

Thanks to the hard work and generosity of the Parent Teacher Association, and all parents past and present, in fundraising for the refurbishment of the building the Upper Prep children can now return to this light and spacious area for their Art and Design Technology lessons.

The children were joined this morning by the current Chair of the Parent Teacher Association and the two previous incumbents of the role who were invited to cut the ribbon to officially declare the Art Studio open. Mr Earnshaw then asked Mrs Christine Parsons, Head of Art and DT to unveil a second plaque, which she did with great enthusiasm only to discover, much to her delighted surprise, that the studio will carry her name in recognition of all her enthusiasm and hard work.
