Congratulations to Mrs Sutcliffe who received the ‘Outstanding Contribution to School Sport‘ award at the seventh annual Charnwood Sports Awards.

The awards celebrate the sporting success of individuals and teams throughout the Borough, and honour dedicated volunteers who give up their spare time to coach, and those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure clubs and community sport runs smoothly.

Mrs Sutcliffe was recognised for her organisation of Loughborough Town Sports, an annual athletics competition held at Loughborough University which brings pupils from primary schools in the area together to compete. She hosts planning meetings, organises the programme, and liaises with all the schools and stakeholders to ensure the event is a success. She also recruits a team of volunteers whose help is invaluable. All of her work on Town Sports is carried out in addition to her teaching and extra-curricular commitments at Fairfield.

In her acceptance speech, Mrs Sutcliffe was keen to stress that Town Sports is a team effort, and that the award is as much for her school, her colleagues, and the many volunteers who contribute to the success of the event. Everyone at Fairfield is proud of her and delighted that she has been recognised by our local community. We also congratulate all the other winners, including Loughborough Grammar School pupil and two-time Youth Olympic Triathlon Champion, Ben Dijkstra, who was named Junior Sportsperson of the Year.
