Fairfield Preparatory School has been judged excellent in all aspects by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI).

The co-educational independent school for children aged from three to eleven achieved an excellent rating across all eight categories which cover every aspect of school life, ranging from pupil achievement, extra-curricular opportunities and quality of teaching, to the personal development of pupils, pastoral care, health and safety, and governance and leadership.

Inspectors visited in March, only weeks after the opening of a new Kindergarten unit for three year olds, housed in the school’s £8m new build project which is approaching completion.

They observed that “pupils of all ages, needs and abilities are successful in their learning.” They also noted that “the attitudes of pupils to their learning are exemplary”.

Recognition was given to teaching staff, with the report acknowledging, “In accordance with the school’s aims, teaching throughout the school offers pupils the excellent academic opportunities they need to succeed academically.”

Additionally, the school was celebrated for its approach to learning, stating “pupils co-operate extremely well in their work, supporting and encouraging each other. All pupils place a high value on their excellent relationships with teachers.”

The variety of sporting, musical and recreational opportunities was also highlighted in the report as it confirmed that “extra-curricular provision is excellent with a wide range of opportunities enabling pupils to flourish within and beyond the classroom.”

The school’s new buildings, poised to provide spacious well-equipped classrooms, a gymnasium, an auditorium and a food technology centre, will complete the superb range of indoor and outdoor facilities available to pupils. The report says that “the resources for outdoor education, music and sport are outstanding”, with its Forest School highlighted as a place where “exciting activities are planned for children to investigate and learn in a stimulating outdoor environment.

Headmaster Andrew Earnshaw said: “My staff and I are delighted with the report which underlines how successful teaching and learning is at Fairfield, and also recognises the many other aspects of school life which contribute to making our school a very special place to be.”
