Fairfield’s Under 11 girls’ hockey team’s winning streak continued at the weekend with another tournament win at Foremarke.

The U11 Foremarke Hockey Tournament took place on Saturday 8th October. Following the abysmal weather at the previous week’s Bromsgrove tournament, it was a welcome change to play in autumn sunshine. With eight teams competing in two pools of four, the competition involved three pool matches with the top two moving forward into the semi-finals and potentially beyond. After the success at Bromsgrove, the girls were keen to continue their winning streak and perform well in preparation for the upcoming IAPS regional finals. They put in some strong performances to top their group and face Beeston 1 in the semi-finals. The girls found themselves having to raise their game and following some lovely team play came out 2-0 to the good. The reward was a place in the final against Warwick Prep, a team that the girls are getting to know quite well! Warwick were determined to put in a solid performance and had certainly raised their game during the course of the tournament. Fairfield scored first with a very well taken reverse stick shot but Warwick continued to apply pressure and secured an equaliser. Continued pressure in and around the Warwick goal saw Fairfield secure numerous penalty corners, one of which resulted in a well deserved winner to secure the victory that the girls so richly deserved. It was another fine performance by the team and wonderful support from all the parents who came along.
