Fairfield’s girls’ Under 11 hockey players won the Bromsgrove Invitational Hockey Tournament on Saturday 1st October 2016.

With a very early start and the forecast of torrential rain, an undeterred and extremely excited U11 team travelled to Bromsgrove School to compete in their annual invitational tournament. Following their recent victory at our own inaugural tournament, they were determined to continue their winning streak and perform well.

With twelve teams competing from all over the midlands region, the standard of hockey on display was high and very competitive. Split in to two pools of six, Fairfield played five pool matches, with the winners of each pool playing each other in a straight final. The girls played with great spirit, skill and maturity, topping their group with relative ease. This put Fairfield in to the final against Kings Hawford. By this stage the weather had deteriorated to driving rain and although the teams were extremely tired and very wet, both were determined to give it one last effort. Fairfield had the dream start to a game and scored a very well taken goal within seconds of the start. A second followed within minutes and the game looked to be very one sided. However, against the run of play, Kings secured a goal and pushed for the equaliser but were denied by some wonderful goal keeping to give Fairfield a well deserved 2-1 victory. The girls gave a truly inspiring performance of which they should all be incredibly proud.
