The Under 11 girls’ hockey team at Fairfield Preparatory School in Loughborough are Midlands Schools In2Hockey Champions 2014/15.

In2Hockey, run by England Hockey, is a fun and dynamic version of the game designed for 10-14 year olds. Played on a half-sized pitch with six or seven players, it helps children develop their hockey skills and techniques in preparation for their progression into the full 11-a-side game.

Twelve teams, who were either winners of their respective county finals or runners-up, took part in the Regional finals which took place last Friday (24th April 2015) at Cannock Hockey Club.

The school’s ‘A’ team put in a string of strong performances, working hard in their pool games to reach the semi-finals. They rose the occasion with an emphatic 4-0 victory over The Croft School, Warwickshire.

Fairfield scored first in the final against Ranby House School in Retford, but their opponents responded with an equaliser which meant the game was decided on penalty strokes. The stroke takers and goalkeeper were completely focused on the task in hand, enabling Fairfield to secure a 3-1 victory.

Headmaster Andrew Earnshaw said: “This is an outstanding achievement and we are extremely proud of our girls. They have worked incredibly hard under the guidance of our staff throughout the course of the year.”
