Pupils are encouraged to enjoy and play sport through the delivery of a high-quality, broad, and balanced curriculum. They are given opportunities regardless of their ability or experience, and the benefits of playing sport are promoted in lessons and co-curricular activities. There is also a comprehensive fixture programme across a broad range of sports. The approach is definitively sport for all!

The highly qualified sports staff are deployed to their specialist sports, fostering and developing links with local clubs and Loughborough University. Opportunities are also taken to employ external coaches wherever possible, providing depth to the training programme for our elite athletes. The team arranges fixtures and after-school training sessions for each team.

Hockey

Hockey teams are entered into the ISNC Hockey Cup, the In2Hockey tournament, and Tier 2 competitions at U16 and U18 levels. Our U18 XI hockey team won the national championship in 2025.

Netball

Netball tournaments include ISNC, SNS, Team Leicestershire, and county rounds, all of which progress to the Nationals. All age groups are entered into Team Leicestershire competitions, and in 2019, the U15 netball team were national finalists. We are proud to have strong links with Charnwood, Loughborough Lightning, and Loughborough University netball teams and coaches.

Football

Football is the fastest-growing sport for girls, both nationally and across independent schools, and we are proud to be part of this exciting movement. Offered as part of our spring games programme, football provides an excellent opportunity for girls to develop their skills and passion for the sport. We are dedicated to enhancing both the technical abilities and love of football in our students, while offering competitive experiences through the ISFA Cup competitions. Our aim is to foster a supportive and dynamic environment where every player can thrive. The football teams compete at U13 and U15 age groups for the SNS Cup, while the senior team and U15s enter the ISFA Cup and the League.

Triathlon

We are developing links with British Triathlon and are proud to have elite athlete coaches who regularly compete at international level. These coaches play a vital role in supporting budding triathletes.

Tennis

We are delighted to work alongside the Lawn Tennis Association and Loughborough University through their research and sport-specific programmes.

Co-curricular Sports Clubs

Co-curricular clubs include netball, hockey, football, basketball, swimming, badminton, handball, rugby, cricket, rounders, tennis, athletics, gymnastics, dance, and table tennis. These clubs are offered to pupils of all age groups, experience levels, and abilities.

Our Sports department is proud to shape future elite athletes. Pupils benefit from expert coaches and outstanding sports facilities.

Foundation – Wide Partnerships

Community Partners of Leicester City Football Club

Loughborough Schools Foundation is a community partner of Premier League football club, Leicester City (LCFC). The new partnership neatly aligns with the Foundation’s increasing focus on developing sporting talent. We’ve recently expanded our elite sports programme offering bespoke sports training and support for student-athletes who aspire to carve out a career in competitive sport. As the Foundation’s strong reputation for success across a variety of sport continues to grow, this partnership with the recently promoted 2023/2024 Championship winners will aim to inspire values of hard work, perseverance, and community involvement in pupils passionate about sport, both on and off the field.

Proudly working with Loughborough Sport

We’re proudly working with Loughborough University Sport and Loughborough University National Tennis Academy (LUNTA) as part of a bespoke programme designed to provide junior elite tennis players expert coaching, science, medicine, and education. The LUNTA students receive an excellent education, boarding and pastoral provision at Loughborough Amherst School.

Our partnership expands beyond the LUNTA programme. Loughborough School Foundation student athletes benefit from specialist coaching and use of world-class facilities at Loughborough University.
