Mutiara, Year 6 at Fairfield Prep School, demonstrated her fantastic badminton talent at the U11 English National Championship last month, coming home with two trophies having won both her single and double matches!
And there seems to be no stopping her. Additionally, Mutiara competed in the Carlton International Youth Tournament at the end of last year in the Netherlands during which she also won her single and double matches.
Mutiara started playing badminton from a very young age, taking inspiration from watching her mum, Atu Sagita, coach badminton sessions and take part in a few competitions. Mutiara began regular training sessions from when she was eight years old and started traveling around the country to experience junior tournaments. Since December 2021 she has won several national tournaments, competing in her age group as well as sometimes in higher age groups.
Clearly a lot of hard work goes into achieving this level of talent and since Year 4, Mutiara has been training almost every day. However, this is not always on a badminton court, but could sometimes be a run on the treadmill, jump-skipping, or simply swimming or gymnastics sessions at the weekend. Mutiara’s mum has even begun to lead a morning training session before school for a small and eager bunch of young badminton players!
All this training will put Mutiara in good stead for competing in another international competition in France this month; the Babolat French International Borders 2024 in which she will compete in the U13 single, double and mixed.
Outside of the badminton court, Mutiara enjoys playing Lego with her younger sister, and playing piano, as well as family hiking and camping trips to the Peak District, Highlands and Cornwall.
Well done Mutiara and good luck with your future competitions!
