On Thursday 23 November LHS hosted its second annual Arts Night which was a resounding success! This student run evening was started in 2022 by then deputy head girls Esther Mole (LHS 2023) and Megan Hodgson (LHS 2023) who wanted to showcase the arts at the High School, giving current pupils a platform to display their talents in an informal supportive way. It is an evening to highlight the arts and it’s importance in a society that is increasingly dominated by Science and Technology.

This year’s Sixth Form were keen to continue Megan and Esther’s legacy and the evening was a triumph! Over 70 pupils from years 7 through to 13 took part with the audience encouraged to move freely between performance spaces in the Main Hall, the Drama Studio, Cope Boarders’ and the Art Studio. Performances were varied with musical talents and drama showcases, poetry reading and live art demonstrations. Loughborough High School was brimming with talent, warmth and encouragement from all in attendance.

We were also delighted to be joined by Martha Bean (LHS 2005) who was the key speaker for the evening. Martha was also the only girl in her year to study Music at A-level when she left in 2005. She went on to obtain a first class honors degree in Music Composition from the Dartington College of Arts before becoming a composer and arranger. Martha spoke about her time at Loughborough High School and how it influenced her career. As a successful musician and composer, Martha’s music has been featured on adverts for brands such as Mercedes Benz and KFC, but her biggest commercial success has been in children’s music as  nursery rhymes 123 with over 1.5 billion streams on Spotify and having recently completed her 26th album!

We’d like to extend our thanks to Martha for joining us for the evening and inspiring all in attendance.

"Thank you so much for getting in touch and asking me! It was a super evening, brilliantly organised and such fantastic talent from the students."
