Coming together to mark 10 years since leaving school

On Saturday 11 November we welcomed back almost 80 alumni from the Class of 2013 to mark their 10 Year Reunion!

The sun was shining for us as alumni went off on their respective tours of their schools to see what has and hasn’t changed over the years. LGS alumni finally got their opportunity to climb to the top of the Tower, LHS alumni saw the changes to the Sixth Form Common Room with a collective mourning for the removal of the shopatron, whilst our OLCS alumni enjoyed revisiting the Chapel and cloisters.

Everyone then came together on the LGS Quad to enjoy a Drinks Reception. We were also delighted to be joined by former and current staff who taught the Class of 2013 during their time such as Emma Eadie, Robert Griffiths, Pippa Kent, Christine Todd and Mel Starkings – just to name a few! It was a day full of reminiscing and laughter with friends reuniting and updating each other on the last 10 years as if no time has passed at all. Amongst the chatter we quickly heard about a well kept LGS secret which we had to share during the lunch.

The lunch took place in Burton Hall with welcomes from Sarah Musgrave, Interim Head of Development, and Clare Burnett (LHS 1997) Chair of the Loughburians’ Alumni Committee. During these welcomes we thought we’d let everyone into the secret we’d found out during the Drinks Reception and shared the video of the LGS Class of 2013 doing the Harlem Shake – much to everyone’s amusement! Alumni then enjoyed a 3 course meal and were able to look over archival materials with many LHS alumni finding themselves in team photos – some of whom have not changed in 10 years.

“It was a truly memorable day, filled with laughter, nostalgia, and the joy of reconnecting with old friends. It even enabled me to fulfil a school-long dream of going to the top of the tower!

The attention to detail and thoughtful planning that went into the event did not go unnoticed. From the welcoming atmosphere to the informative tour, it was evident that a great deal of effort and care went into making this reunion a success. Eating the delicious school food back in the hall brought with it many memories, and the seamless organisation all contributed to an unforgettable experience.

Reconnecting with classmates, sharing stories, and reminiscing about our time at LGS was truly special. It served as a reminder of the strong bonds we formed during our academic years and how those connections have continued to shape our lives. It’s amazing how even after 10 years we can all laugh and joke as if we were back sat causing trouble in Mr Morris’s English classes! It was a joy to see familiar faces and catch up with friends whom I hadn’t seen in years. The event will undoubtedly be a cherished memory for all who attended.”
