On Thursday 17 August there was a buzz of excitement and nerves across the Foundation as the Class of 2023 received their A-Level results at Loughborough Grammar School, Loughborough High School and Loughborough Amherst School. Continue reading to see an overview of this year's results, with words from the Heads, parents and the Class of 2023 themselves.

Congratulations to the Class of 2023! We're excited to see what the future has in store for you.

Loughborough High School

I could not be prouder of our Year 13 students, who have shown incredible courage and resilience over the last three years and who have achieved such success in their A Levels. It has been an honour to see them grow academically, and personally, throughout their time with us and, although we are sad to see them go, we are excited to see what is in store for them as they embark upon their next steps.

Esther joined Loughborough High School at the start of Year 12 and is off to study Chemistry at Bristol, having achieved A*AAA. Esther has given a great deal in her time at the school, including supporting local primary school children in the Saturday masterclasses held here.

Abigail is preparing to join specialist art school, University of the Arts in London, to study fine art. Abigail has been deeply involved in promoting and supporting the arts at Loughborough High School, and across the wider Foundation. She achieved A*AA at A Level.

Janel has made the most of opportunities to study Classical Greek and Latin at Loughborough High School, and will be reading Classics at Durham, having achieved top grades in her A Levels. Janel has also shared her love of Classics with local primary children by helping to teach them about the language and history of the classical world.

Loughborough Grammar School

Congratulations to our A-Level students who have every reason to be proud of their achievements to date.

Like those before them, this year’s cohort have worked diligently throughout Sixth Form and are now looking forward to continuing their academic journeys at their chosen universities. We wish them all the best.

Harry couldn’t believe his results, he said, “It’s been a long hard year, so it’s been really rewarding to have it all come together on results day.” Talking about the process for applying to Cambridge to read Languages, he said it was tough, but that he was well supported all the way through. “I’m so grateful for all the support I received from the teachers for the entrance exam and interview preparation.” he said.

Ian is about to embark on a Degree Apprenticeship for His Majesty’s Treasury which will involve policy making and analysis. Based at the University of Kent, the course will mostly be online, however Ian’s not worried, he had lots of practice with online study due to covid and lockdown happening during their GCSEs. Ian studied Economics, History, Maths and Latin and is very excited to be starting his course in a couple of weeks. Understandably, his parents are extremely proud of his achievements and are very excited for him and his future.

Darius achieved 4 A* (Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry) and is now ready to study Physics at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. In addition to his 4 A Levels Darius achieved an A* for his EPQ – a 5000 word essay on the subject of quantum computing!

Asked about his advice for other students applying for university, he suggested that interview practice is crucial.

In spite of achieving a clean sweep of A*s Darius didn’t want to open his UCAS email until after he’d opened his results. He came into School to open his results and was extremely happy to see what he’d achieved!!

Loughborough Amherst School

I am very pleased with our A Level results this year. I am delighted for Alyssa, who has achieved straight A* grades and is going to read Classical Archaeology and Ancient History at Oxford. I am also very pleased for our outgoing Head Prefect, Sofia, who achieved two A*s and an A, and is off to study History of Art at The Courtauld Institute. In general, I am particularly proud of our value-added for our more able pupils, which has been exceptional this year.

Liam achieved two A’s and three B’s, which meant he has secured his place at Durham University studying Modern Language and Culture, with a particular interest in French and Arabic. He shared a top tip for prospective students, “Start revising well in advance of any exams and prepare for every step up in work and learning, but mostly importantly, pick Year 11 subjects that you enjoy!”

I’ve had two children go through the school, and they have flourished at Amherst. The success is down to the fab support and teaching at the school, and when staff have recognised potential in children and encouraged them to succeed.

Claire Bellchambers

I’m really proud of my results and they are exactly what I hoped for. I got an A* in Religious Studies, B in Biology and a B in Geography. I’m going to Warwick University to study Philosophy and Global Sustainable Development but I will miss the community and family feel of the school.
