Alumni Hockey Tournament 2023

Over 50 alumni hockey players spanning the last 15 years 1st Hockey XI’s joined forces with the School’s current 1st XI in a festival of Hockey organised by Jez Clarke on the Grant Sutcliffe Astro on Saturday 8 April. 

The alumni were all split into five teams according to the years they represented LGS. They compete against one another and with the current side in a ’round-robin’ 7 a-side tournament. After two and a half hours of fierce competition it was fitting that the oldest side present, captained by Tom Bryan (FFD 2001, LGS 2008), remained unbeaten and so were declared the winners overall. 

With the heat taking its toll on many of the alumni who had last played hockey when at School, it was decided to complete the day with an 11 a-side fixture between the Under 25’s and the Over 25’s…with each team comprising over 30 players to allow for regular substitutions as fatigue set in! The overall winners were the Over 25’s.
