Mr Jeremy Parton (LGS 1983) is stepping down as Denton Housemaster this Summer after 25 years. He will continue his duties as Head of Year 7 and Biology Teacher at Loughborough Grammar School. We caught up with Mr Parton to hear about his time at Denton House.

“My family and I moved into Denton in August 1997, and within hours we very, very nearly burned the building to the ground when our 2-year-old son turned on a cooker that we thought was unplugged. Things could only get better!

In the subsequent 25 years it has been our honour and privilege to look after boys from many countries, including Great Britain, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, Russia, Albania, Cyprus, Austria, Spain and Kazakhstan. No matter where they come from, all boys share the same good-natured sense of mischief and fun, so our time in Denton has never been boring.

We have visited many places such as London, York, Blackpool, Llandudno, Oxford, Cambridge, Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester, Cleethorpes, Criccieth, Great Yarmouth. The boys have played a huge range of musical instruments and many sports including pool, ping pong, darts, basketball, badminton, cricket and endless games of football… so inevitably we have also visited a few A&E departments!

Our highlights would be seeing the new extension built in 2012 and playing a part in helping the school win a national award in recognition of its support for overseas boarders. It will be an emotional day when we hand over our keys this summer!” – Mr Parton, Loughborough Grammar School.
