Spring Trophy at Charnwood Golf Club – 17 May 2017
Memories of 1993 at Longcliffe flooded back as we sat in the club house deciding whether to compete for the Spring Trophy in continuous rain. Not only was it almost impossible to play golf but also to mark a card. We were, however, at probably the best course in Leicestershire for drainage.
Out of 17 names on the original starting sheet 7 brave golfers completed the course and considering the conditions achieve some very good scores. A winner on 3 previous occasions Hatj made it 4 with 32 points after a tie with Phil Scott. Steve Hilton finished very strongly for 3rd place, and Phil Scott also finished well despite the rain with a 2 for 4 points at the 16th.
