Pathfinders Learn Key Skills and Begin to Lead the Way

Aged between 2-3 years old, our Pathfinders are naturally more independent and have already begun learning communication skills. This room is designed to build upon these foundations and after learning physical skills such as walking, talking and interacting in our Investigator’s room, children at the Pathfinders stage are encouraged to learn more specific key skills, including feeding themselves, tidying up their toys and even enjoy music lessons!
Play gets more interesting for our children at this stage as they begin to play with their peers and build relationships with the other children around them. They continue to be able to choose their own activities but are often also beginning to make up their own games, helping them to understand emotions and build communication skills in the process.
This is where we begin to see the children becoming conversation starters, eager to tell you what they are doing when you enter the room and asking questions such as what, where and who. The Pathfinders team channel this to further expand the children’s vocabulary and enable them to begin to use more complex sentences.
Staff members in our Pathfinders room encourage children to begin to understand the meaning of ‘responsibility’ as they are encouraged to help tidy up and to wash their own hands before mealtimes, for example. During lunch, they are also encouraged to use open cups and eat using cutlery. Supervised by our experienced team, the children quickly learn and develop these key fine motor skills.
Our Pathfinders team will fully support you and your child as they continue to develop in this room, providing ideas and advice for processes such as toilet training, consistency and at-home activities.
A day at Nursery for our Pathfinders children might also include an exciting music lesson or a trip around the nearby campus! Taught by a specialist member of the Loughborough Schools Foundation’s music staff, children enjoy the opportunity to experiment with musical instruments and enjoy singing with puppets and toys. Just recently, they have also experienced a ‘nature walk’ around the LSF campus to explore what spring flowers they could see.
Aiming to prepare the children for nearing the end of their Loughborough Nursery journey, children leave our Pathfinders room even more ready to explore and investigate the world around them.
