It was lovely to see so many alumni join us on the morning of Saturday 10 October for our inaugural Alumni Rugby Breakfast, as we cheered on the LGS 1st XV to a fantastic 48–5 victory over Nottingham High School!
Alumni were able to reconnect with old friends, enjoy a bacon roll and reminisce on their days on the pitch, with many fondly recalling their rugby tour to Sri Lanka in 1978. There was also an opportunity to catch up with Director of Rugby and Head of Performance Sport, Emyr Lewis, while the rugby archives, kindly collated by John Weitzel, provided a nostalgic glimpse into the past. Alumni particularly enjoyed searching for their younger selves in team photos, which provided a laugh as they reminisced on their school days and having hair!
The event was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the friendships forged through rugby and school life, many of which have endured long after leaving school. For some, the celebrations continued at the local pub after the match.
We hope to embed this as a regular event in our event programme and to see some familiar and new faces next time.
