Role: Maths Teacher

1. Where was your favourite place on campus, and why?
Staffroom at the end of lunchtime when the Times Quick Crossword was being completed. Particularly if Mr Tomblin was stuck on a clue and I managed to get it (didn’t happen very often, and was normally popular culture!)
2. What did you enjoy most about your role?
Working on the DofE Award. So many great memories.
3. Is there a standout memory from your time at the school?
School trips. Going to Morocco on a school trip and spending time in the Sahara. Ski trips and DofE.
4. Was there a particular class or year group you remember especially fondly?
The year 8 maths class I took all the way through GSCE, A* Glory, nearly! You know who you are. Also the few from that class that I took through Further Maths A level.
5. What is one thing about your role that most people wouldn’t know?
I used the maths cupboard to store many personal items. I think there still may be a crowbar in there that’s mine. One day the brace of pheasants really frightened a year 7.
6. What was your favourite school lunch?
Hands down, chicken pie (corner piece), followed by chocolate pudding with chocolate custard. Lunch to go, Coronation Chicken Sandwich and Sicilian lemon cookie.
7. How do you like to spend your time now? What have you been up to since leaving the school??
My triplets are now 10 and my eldest is 12. They take up a huge amount of my time. I’ve done a lot of bike packing since leaving LHS, the picture is me at the end of the C2C cycle ride.
I’m not actually working in schools now, I still live in the East Midlands although my job is based in London. It allows me to travel alot. I’m in Africa, Middle East and South East Asia this year.
8. Have you returned to the school or stayed connected since you left?
Keep meaning to but haven’t managed it.
9. Is there anything else you’d like to share about your time here?
My time at LHS was quite simply the best job I’ve ever had. Such a great time and a special place.
