Role: Started at LHS in September 2002 as a part-time biology teacher and when I left in 2024, I was Head of Biology.
Dates: 2002-2024
1. Where was your favourite place on campus, and why?
I do love the hall, especially when the Christmas tree goes up, just before the start of Tableaux and everything starts to feel very Christmassy……..but my spiritual home is S2, where I spent so much of my time and had so many lovely biology groups.
2. What did you enjoy most about your role?
Over the years there was so much to enjoy; the staff I worked with and the friendships made with them, the amazing students and the fact that I was teaching the best subject, which, for me at least, never gets dull.
3. Is there a standout memory from your time at the school?
I think that this has to be a senior house dance competition about 10 years ago, when Storer, literally came in like a wrecking ball! A year 13 student (who I won’t name here!) sat in a shopping trolley and was hurled across the stage to Miley Cyrus. However she ended up a bit off course and was left dangling precariously off the front of the stage. Luckily she was rescued and no year 7s underneath were damaged. It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen.
4. Was there a particular class or year group you remember especially fondly?
Its impossible to pick just one…..I had so many great tutor groups and fabulous classes that I remember very fondly
5. What is one thing about your role that most people wouldn’t know?
A bit of a nerdy one here, but I do love a spreadsheet and a bit of data analysis. Every year after the exam results were published I loved to review all the questions and see which ones our students had done well on and which they had found more tricky. I would then use this data to shape the next years teaching and tests to hopefully develop all areas of learning.
6. What was your favourite school lunch?
As a vegetarian, the choice of lunches really improved over my time at LHS and in my last few years I was a big fan of the salad bar. However, if you made me choose just one then it would probably be the all day breakfast as everything is made better with a hash brown.
7. How do you like to spend your time now? What have you been up to since leaving the school?
I really enjoy the extra time in the mornings and still appreciate my leisurely breakfast and coffee, at what is probably registration time in school.
I go to lots more gigs and this is always extra special when the band is playing on a school night.
We have also brought a camper van and I love having the opportunities to travel during term time. I recently came back from a tour of Northern Spain and am currently planning a trip to the Outer Hebrides.
8. Have you returned to the school or stayed connected since you left?
I did return to school to watch the 100th Tableaux, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
