Loughborough Schools Foundation is proud to announce that PE teacher and Loughborough Grammar School alumnus, Martyn Gidley, has been selected to represent England in the over-50s cricket One-Day International against India later this month.

The fixture will take place at Broxbourne Cricket Club on Sunday 28 June, marking another significant milestone in Gidley’s distinguished international Masters cricket career.

Martyn’s selection follows a remarkable period of success with the England over-50s side. Last summer, he captained the team to victory in the prestigious Marlborough Cup, where England secured a clean sweep of wins against international opposition including India, Wales, and the USA. His all-round contributions with both bat and ball were instrumental in the team’s success, underlining his continued impact at the highest level of Masters cricket.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming fixture, Martyn Gidley said: “It’s a huge honour to once again represent England, particularly in a fixture against a strong India side. Opportunities like this are incredibly special, and I’m looking forward to being part of what promises to be a competitive and enjoyable contest. Balancing playing at this level alongside teaching is something I’m very proud of, and I hope it shows our pupils that a love of sport can stay with you for life.”

Martyn’s continued success on the international stage is a fantastic achievement and one we are incredibly proud of as a Foundation. His dedication to both his profession and his sport embodies everything we aim to instil in our pupils – commitment, passion, and a lifelong engagement with physical activity. Representing England is a tremendous honour, and Martyn is a superb role model for our pupils.
