Loughburians’ London Dinner

On Friday 15 May, our bus departed from the school car park at 2pm, heading for London. After a smooth journey, during which we passed some of London’s most iconic sights, including Buckingham Palace and Big Ben, we arrived at the magnificent venue, One Great George Street, in the heart of Westminster.

At 7pm, our guests began to arrive, ascending the grand staircase into the atrium, setting the scene for a memorable evening. The night began with a drinks reception in The Library, kindly sponsored by the Trust of the former Old Loughburians’ Association. There was plenty of catching up and reminiscing, with guests enjoying the opportunity to browse old LHS and LGS magazines displayed on the archive table.

Following the chime of the gong, everyone migrated into the Great Hall and took their seats beneath the magnificent gold leaf ceiling. After a welcome from Dr Clare Burnett (LHS 1997), we heard from LGS Head, James Neville, before enjoying the meal.

Dr Simon Timson (FFD, LGS 1989), our guest speaker, delivered an amusing and inspiring speech, reminiscing on memoires of school that many in the room could relate to, from the delight of chocolate sponge and chocolate custard to fraternising at the barrier. He reminded us that the lessons learned at school extend far beyond academics, helping to shape the values and principles that guide us throughout our lives.

After tea and coffee, the formal evening came to an end as the bus departed for Loughborough. However, for many, the celebrations continued elsewhere in London.

We hope to see many familiar and new faces at our 2027 Loughburians’ Dinner. We are in the process of selecting the venue, so keep an eye out. If you have any connections to potential venues in London, please do get in touch (alumni@lsf.org).

Missed out this time? Don’t worry – we have another opportunity for you to reunite with fellow alumni at our more relaxed London Drinks event on Wednesday 1 July!
