Orchestra Unwrapped
‘Speak up’ was the wonderful theme of the Philharmonia’s latest Orchestra Unwrapped project last Friday in de Montfort Hall. 66 string players from Fairfield Prep School and Loughborough Amherst School went on this memorable trip to see the world class Philharmonia Orchestra present their ‘Orchestra Unwrapped’ concert along with almost 2000 children from around the county. The pupils spent a few weeks in their ensembles listening to the music for the concert which included favourites like ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’ and Disney’s ‘We don’t talk about Bruno.’ We practiced a song ‘Something to Say’ and sang it in 3 parts accompanied by the orchestra. Through the project we learned that music is a fabulous way of speaking up about what is important to us and that composers have been doing this throughout the ages. Four of our students were interviewed and filmed at the end of the concert and had the chance to speak up about their experience of the concert. It was an inspiring visit and we went away ready to speak up through our music.
