February in the Music School has seen even more outstanding performances than usual, with our hugely popular weekend of music competitions on the 3 and 4 February followed by the Young and Senior Musician of the Year Finals on the 9 February.

The weekend of the music competitions saw over 200 entrants play over 20 different instruments across our six faculties of piano, voice, woodwind, brass, percussion and strings with pupils from both the Foundation and our neighbouring schools.  We were privileged to witness all our young musicians playing with skill, enthusiasm and joy, with some committed young people competing in multiple competitions.

The culmination of this weekend were the finals, held the following week, where the winners from each category (if attending a Foundation school) or highly commended pupils competed for the Junior Young Musician of the Year (for pupils in Year 6 and under) or the Young Musician of the Year (for pupils in Year 7 and above).   Everyone played with tremendous ability and endeavoured to make the adjudicator’s job as difficult as possible.  In the end, Kartik from Year 6 won the Junior Musician of the Year, whilst Joseph won the Young Musician of the Year for a fantastic second year.  Congratulations to both boys and to all the competitors.  We look forward to doing it all again next year!
