Back to Academic Music

Music GCSE is an interesting, challenging and inspiring course. You will improve your understanding of all types of music and how it is created, developing a life-long love of music. There are also many benefits of studying music at this level, including encouraging emotional development, developing listening and communication skills, as well as self-discipline and creativity.

We follow the AQA specification, which incorporates into the course a large element of variety and choice; the course is split into three units: performing, composing and understanding music.

If you enjoy music and want to discover more about a subject you love, GCSE Music would be a great choice. As a requirement of the course, we expect you to take instrumental/vocal or Music Technology lessons to support the performance aspect of the course. Pupils studying for GCSE Music are able to make full use of the music facilities to develop their skills through the extensive programme of choirs, ensembles, lectures and workshops.

At the end of their GCSE journey, all pupils are ready to study a music qualification at A Level.
