Charles Price, Head of Academic Music at Loughborough Schools Foundation, has recently returned from Morocco where he was selected to play the trumpet as part of His Majesty King Charles III’s official birthday celebrations.

As part of this incredible opportunity, Charles performed as part of a brass quintet providing musical entertainment for a party held at the British Embassy in Rabat, Morocco’s capital. He was also asked to play The Last Post during the lowering of the flag as a solo performance as part of the Sunset ceremony.

The following day, the quintet performed at a hospital, providing musical entertainment for local children.

Alongside his role as Head of Academic Music, Charles is a musician in the Army Reserve, playing with the Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers. The quintet was selected from this band to travel to Morocco in support of The King’s birthday celebrations.

Charles spoke of his experience: “It was an incredible honour, and I enjoyed every moment. Whilst I was both excited and nervous in the build-up to the performance, when I was actually performing, I was ‘in the zone!’

The Loughborough Schools Foundation has been incredibly supportive through enabling my time away from work; this has certainly been the highlight of my Army career.”
