We are delighted to announce that Loughborough High School has been selected as one of the schools shortlisted for the Independent Girls’ School of the Year Award 2024.

The prestigious annual awards are designed to showcase schools’ success stories and celebrate the extraordinary student experience they provide. The Independent Girls’ School of the Year category specifically looks at how girls have an unparalleled student experience at the school, including examples that demonstrate areas of excellence.

Dr Fiona Miles, Head of Loughborough High School said: “We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for this award, which is clear recognition of the excellent educational offering for our girls, supported by the breadth of our co-curricular offer.

Whilst we are the top-performing independent school in the East Midlands for GCSEs (2023), the judges have recognised that Loughborough High School offers an experience much broader than academic achievement; it offers an experience in which there are no limits on female aspiration, an experience which enables our pupils to grow and develop into adaptable, independent and socially responsible young women.”

Loughborough High School pupils achieved the strongest GCSE results across all independent schools in the East Midlands in 2023.

  • 39% of girls were awarded grade 9, the equivalent of A**
  • 62% of girls were awarded 9/8, the equivalent of A** and A*
  • The average grade was an 8, the equivalent of an A*
  • 20% of girls were awarded at least eight grade 9s, the equivalent of eight A**

These outstanding results place Loughborough High School, which was founded in 1850 as the country’s oldest grammar school for girls, as the highest-performing independent school in the East Midlands region for GCSE results in 2023.

All finalists for the Independent School of the Year Awards 2024 will be published on 7 September with winners announced in October.
