Jazz Night 2024

The night began with an illustrious performance by the student-led Year 13 group ‘The Jazz Dispatchers’, who performed a variety of classic jazz standards, including Ella Fitzgerald’s ‘A Night in Tunisia’ and Roy Hargrove’s ‘Strasbourg / St. Denis’, a classic jam number.

This was then followed up by the fan favourite, Big Band, who played a plethora of upbeat numbers, and some rather virtuosic atmospheric tunes to contrast. For the Year 13 students, it was their last ever Jazz Night and so they all played excellent solos.

To then display the talent in the Prep Schools, Prep Jazz group, led by the excellent Mr. Groom, performed a magnificent set, including numbers such as ‘C Jam Blues’.

Subsequently, sax choir performed, led by Mr. Geary, in what was an undeniably great display of saxophone skills.

A variety of vocal soloists, including Florence and Josie among others then performed for guests during their meal, followed by Swing Band and Jazz Band, excellently displaying the high level of talent coming through the ranks at LSF.

Penultimately, Sax Ensemble played a lively set which included fan favourites Summertime and Autumn Leaves, with features on Tenor and Soprano Sax.

To close the show, we heard from the Big Band, who played the audience out expertly. Notable performance from Felipe playing a soulful feature in ‘Against All Odds’ for Mrs Watson who couldn’t be at the show this year.

Alexander, Y13
