Mr Tony Jones
Chair of Governors
Tony is an experienced business advisor and has held senior Board positions in a number of UK businesses. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a graduate of the University of Nottingham.
Tony began his career at Pricewaterhouse Coopers in the East Midlands in 1980 after which he became Finance Director within the Sears plc retail conglomerate. He then served as Group Finance and Operations Director of Camelot Group plc, subsequently working in a number of private equity owned businesses including Wyevale Garden Centres and also setting up his own independent business consulting firm. Tony has acted as Chair and non-executive director of a number of businesses. Currently he is a consultant to a Corporate Finance firm and adviser to a related business.
Tony was appointed a Governor in December 2015 and has chaired both the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee, up to September 2021, and subsequently the Operations and Compliance Committee. He was appointed as Vice Chair of the Foundation in 2019.
An East Midlands man, Tony still lives locally with his wife and is parent of two LGS alumni. He is a former Chair of Loughborough Round Table, a passionate Leicester Tigers fan, an active cyclist and a keen but infrequent golfer.
