Significant investment in sport set to take facilities to the next level

How we’re securing the future of sport for generations to come

We’re delighted to share that a proposed investment in the future of sport at Loughborough Schools Foundation has been approved by the Foundation’s Board of Governors, subject to planning permission. The major investment includes plans for a new 3G sports pitch, as well as a wider programme of improvements across our sporting facilities at both Quorn Playing Fields and on the Burton Walks campus.

The project will provide enhanced opportunities in a wide range of sports for both current and future pupils across the Foundation, continuing our longstanding commitment to sporting excellence, performance and engaged participation amongst all age groups and abilities.

The planned 3G pitch, designed for all-weather play, will allow for the increase of both curriculum and co-curricular sports provision, particularly for football. This follows the addition of football to the curriculum as a full Games option for Year 7 pupils at Loughborough Grammar School in September 2025, as a result of growing enthusiasm for the sport across the Foundation and a wider commitment to offering pupils more choice in their sporting journeys. Football is also a popular option at both Fairfield Prep School and Loughborough High School, with multiple different training sessions taking place before or after school throughout the school week.

Alongside this, the investment programme is expected to include floodlighting for the netball courts, indoor cricket nets at the Parkin Sports Centre, improvements to facilities at our Quorn Playing Fields and enhancements to several sports facilities on the main campus. Financed through major capital funds, work will commence this academic year on the carefully considered design and planning of the project with key Foundation stakeholders.

Beyond the many educational benefits of the development, the advanced facilities will also enable greater community engagement opportunities with local clubs, organisations and institutions. The investment reflects our commitment to sport for young people both at the Foundation and within the wider Loughborough community – a place already regarded nationally as a hub for sporting success.

The planned developments signal the next stage of the Foundation’s commitment to sport, building on the heritage and rich tradition of sporting excellence across our schools. Not only are we investing in the future of sport across the Foundation for our current pupils, but we’re also securing exciting sports opportunities for generations of young people to come.
