We were delighted to see such positive feedback about pride and connection to your former schools. An overwhelming majority of alumni said they are proud to have been pupils, and more than four in five would recommend the schools to others. Many still feel connected to their school – something we are committed to strengthening even further through our events and communications.
Responses came from alumni and former staff aged 19 to 94, with particularly strong engagement from those who left school between the 1970s and 1990s. This highlights the lasting impact of an education within our schools and the importance of staying connected at every stage of life.
Survey Participation by Decade of ‘Class of’ (Count and Response Rate)

School life beyond the classroom continues to stand out as a key part of the alumni experience. Many respondents highlighted involvement in co-curricular activities such as CCF, sport, drama and music as some of their most memorable and influential experiences. We will use these insights to shape our communications and future event initiatives.
Many alumni expressed interest in attending events such as talks, dinners and reunions but practical barriers – distance, busy lives and uncertainty about attendees – can prevent participation. Encouragingly, there is clear appetite for more opportunities to reconnect – especially through year group reunions so we will be exploring ways to enable more of these.
You told us that our alumni magazine and e-newsletter remain the most valued ways to keep in contact. Regular, meaningful updates are preferred, with less interest in channels such as phone or post. Our social channels are less well used, particularly amongst older alumni – but we plan to maintain these to appeal to all.
Content that resonates most includes school memories, history, and news of fellow alumni and former staff. Celebrating achievements and sharing stories from across the community continues to be a key priority and we’re working on initiatives to ensure we include news that is of interest to all. Please continue to send in memories and accomplishments that might interest the wider community.
One of the most encouraging findings from the survey is the willingness among alumni to give back to the School community.
While just 1 in 6 responders have been involved in volunteering activities so far, nearly a third indicated they would consider supporting the schools in the future – especially by sharing their career experiences to help inspire current pupils.
We know it’s not always clear how to contribute, so we’re working on simpler and more flexible ways to get involved.
We know too that support comes in many forms. Around 1 in 5 alumni told us they have already made a donation to support the schools, and a further group said they would consider doing so in the future – highlighting a growing culture of giving within our community. We will continue to highlight the impact of philanthropy across our schools, and share stories of lives that have been impacted through the generosity of alumni.
Whether it’s contributing a short careers profile, taking part in a careers event, or supporting from afar, there will be a range of opportunities to suit different interests and availability.
What happens next?
Your feedback is already shaping our plans. We will:
- Enhance how we communicate, focusing on the channels and frequency you prefer
- Develop more accessible and engaging events with greater emphasis on year-group reunions
- Share more of the stories, history and achievements that matter most to you
- Create clearer and more flexible ways for alumni to give back
This is just the beginning of an ongoing conversation. Thank you again for being part of our community- and for helping us build an even stronger alumni network for the future.
Finally, congratulations to Jared Borrill, LGS Class of 2021, the lucky winner of the Amazon Voucher! Jared, we’ll be in touch.
