Nick Burton (LGS 1974) came back to campus at the end of September with 13 Citroën DS cars from the 60s and 70s in tow for a photo opportunity! The iconic LGS Tower proved to be the perfect backdrop.
Nick said, “The photo of our collection of Citroën DS cars from the 60s and 70s was part of this group’s annual weekend trip and was centred around Quorn. This year’s location was chosen as two of us from the group had our seats of learning in Loughborough; myself at LGS from ’67-74 and a colleague at the University at the same time.
“Apart from our reconnoitre of the school quadrangle last November I had only returned to Loughborough twice since leaving, once whilst driving through the town on a tractor with two silage trailers, and secondly to show my two sons where I went to school.
“Using the LGS Tower as an imposing backdrop, I had planned the arrangement of the cars with military precision! What I hadn’t planned for was the torrent of rain, which persisted for the entirety of the shoot, lack of manoeuvring space to arrange the cars without transgressing onto hallowed turf and a participant misreading the ‘Tulip’ map to get to LGS and hence ruining the symmetry of the shoot ( a detention was duly handed out to the culprit).
“However once we were all in position photos were taken and we rapidly climbed back aboard our iconic classics, turned on ancient de-misters and headed for our next port of call on the itinerary, namely a Great Central Railway steam train ride.
“I am pleased to have had the opportunity to return to LGS, albeit briefly, some 50 years after passing the Quad gates for the last time prior to carving out a niche in agronomy and latterly my own agrochemical trials business.
“I extend my thanks to Dr Emma Fraser in the alumni office for helping to make this shoot possible and for providing the stepladder!”
It was great to welcome Nick back to the Grammar School and that we could help provide the perfect backdrop!
