Sport

Support the drive, discipline, and joy of school sport.

You could help every pupil take part, push themselves, and feel proud, regardless of their starting point.

Your gift could provide access to the equipment, coaching, and facilities that help young people build confidence, resilience, and a lifelong love of sport.

Whether they’re discovering a new passion or competing at the highest level, your support ensures no one is left on the sidelines.

Taking part. Pushing boundaries. Finding pride.

Sport isn’t just about winning; it’s about belonging, believing in yourself, and becoming stronger with every step.

“Rugby has pushed me further than I ever thought possible. It’s not just about the tackles or the tries, it’s about teamwork, respect, and learning how to get back up when things don’t go your way.”

Freddie, Rugby Player

“Before I joined the hockey team, I never saw myself as a leader. Now, I help organise drills, support younger players, and feel part of something that really matters to me.”

Imogen, Hockey Player

“There’s so much thinking in cricket. You have to stay focused, play smart, and support your team, even when you’re not batting. I’ve learned patience, responsibility, and how to stay grounded.”

James, Cricketer

“Netball is where I found my voice. I used to be shy, but playing goal defence taught me how to communicate, take charge, and believe in myself.”

U16 Netball Player

“Football is everything to me. On the pitch, I’m focused, driven, and surrounded by teammates and friends.”

Lewis, Footballer

“I love the one-on-one challenge of tennis. It’s just me, the racket, and the next point. I’ve learned to keep going, even when I feel like giving up.”

Max, Tennis Player

The Ed Thorpe Memorial Fund

Established in memory of Ed Thorpe, a passionate sports advocate and former teacher at LGS, the Ed Thorpe Memorial Fund was created to support pupils at LGS in their pursuit of excellence in cricket and rugby.

Donations to the Fund help young athletes in their chosen sport by providing financial support for much-needed equipment, sports uniforms and things like one-off training programmes.

Ted, a Year 10 pupil, plays for LGS under-15s, under-17s, and the First team, as well as representing Derbyshire CCC under-15s. With the intensity of his playing schedule, kit wears out quickly. Thanks to the Ed Thorpe Memorial Fund, his family was able to secure the equipment he needed.

“This grant has made a big difference. Thank you for helping Ted pursue his passion and grow as a player.” – Ted’s Father
