Create a legacy that lives beyond your lifetime.
For over five centuries, legacy gifts have shaped the future of education in Loughborough.
From Thomas Burton’s bequest in 1494, which laid the foundations for Loughborough Grammar School, to the generous supporters who continue to remember our Schools in their Wills today, these gifts have ensured that generations of young people can learn, thrive and achieve their full potential.
Yours, or your loved-one’s, experience at one of our Schools was made possible by those who came before you. Individuals who, through their Wills, chose to give a gift that shaped the halls, classrooms and corridors where others have learned and grown.
By giving a gift in your Will, you too can make a lasting impact, providing opportunities, enhancing facilities and securing the future for the pupils who will follow in your footsteps.

Giving a gift in your Will is a powerful way to ensure future generations benefit from the same life-changing opportunities you experienced or helped create.
Whether you were a pupil, a member of staff, or part of our wider community, your time with us shaped lives and left a lasting mark. By remembering the Schools in your Will, you can honour that connection and help others follow in your footsteps.
Your gift will help ensure that talent, not financial means, determines access to our Schools, and that our tradition of excellence continues for years to come.
The difference your gift could make…
We have been honoured to receive gifts from alumni, former staff and friends over the years, and we are delighted to share their stories with you.

Everything You Need to Know
Because it’s a personal and lasting way to support something that mattered deeply to you.
Whether you’re a former pupil, a member of staff, a parent, or simply someone who values the role education plays in shaping lives, a gift in your Will can help ensure future generations continue to thrive at our Schools.
Your gift could open the door to a life-changing education for a pupil who might not otherwise have the chance. It could help nurture talent, support inspiring teaching, or contribute to facilities that spark creativity, confidence and ambition.
Many people choose to give a gift out of gratitude; for the opportunities they had, the people they met, or the part they played in the life of our Schools. It’s a way to honour those memories and values, and to pass them on.
Even a small percentage of your estate can make a meaningful difference. It’s a quiet, generous gesture that helps others flourish and continues your connection to the Schools well into the future.
Every gift, whatever the size, is deeply appreciated and can make a meaningful difference.
Some people choose to give a small percentage of their estate, even 1%, which allows them to support both their loved ones and a cause that’s important to them. Others may give a fixed amount or a specific item of value.
What matters most is the intention behind the gift. Together, gifts of all sizes help ensure our Schools continue to offer exceptional opportunities for generations to come.
Yes. You can direct your gift to a specific School within the Foundation, or even to a particular area such as bursaries, music, sport or facilities. We’re happy to help you tailor your wishes.
You can give the following types of gifts in your Will:
- A pecuniary gift (a fixed amount of money)
- A residuary gift (a percentage of your estate)
- A reversionary gift (leaving assets to someone for life, then to us)
- A specific item (such as shares, property, or valuable items)
We understand that your Will arrangements are a personal matter, and you may wish for them to remain confidential, so no, you don’t need to tell us. However, we would love to hear from you if you are comfortable letting us know. This helps us plan for the future and give us the opportunity to thank you and involve you in the life of our Schools, if you’d like that.
Yes, Wills can be updated at any time. We recommend speaking to a solicitor to ensure your wishes are properly recorded.
If you’re considering giving a gift in your Will, the first step is to speak to a solicitor or professional advisor to ensure your wishes are clearly recorded.
If you’d like to support a specific School or area, or talk through your thoughts, we’d be happy to have a confidential conversation. You don’t need to make any commitment, we’re here to help.
If you already have a Will, you can update it using an additional form called a Codicil Form.
And if you’ve already included a gift in your Will, please consider letting us know. It gives us the opportunity to thank you and, if you wish, to involve you in the life of our Schools.

Ways to give a gift in your Will
After providing for your loved ones, there are several ways to give a gift to one of our Schools in your Will:
A PECUNIARY GIFT is a specific sum of money. Suggested wording: “I give the Loughborough Schools Foundation (charity number 1081765) the sum of £[amount], free of tax, for the general purposes of the [Schools/name of school]. I declare that the receipt of the Bursar or other authorised officer shall be a good and sufficient discharge to my Executors.”
A RESIDUARY GIFT is a percentage of your estate after other gifts and costs. This is often the simplest to administer. Suggested wording: “I give [insert percentage]% of the residue of my estate to the Loughborough Schools Foundation (charity number 1081765), free of tax, for the general purposes of the [Schools/name of school]. I declare that the receipt of the Bursar or other authorised officer shall be a good and sufficient discharge to my Executors.”
A REVERSIONARY GIFT leaves your assets to a named beneficiary (e.g. your spouse) for their lifetime, then they pass to our Schools.
A SPECIFIC GIFT allows you to gift specific items such as shares, property or stocks to the School, either on terms that they be retained or that they may be sold when advantageous to provide funds for Loughborough Schools Foundation. If you are considering this type of bequest, please get in touch with us so that we can discuss what you have in mind.
Stuart Swan, Director of Development and Alumni Engagement, would love to hear from you if you are interested in giving a gift in your Will.
