On Tuesday 28 October, the Master of the Worshipful Company of Barbers presented David Simmons (LGS 1963) with a citation expressing the Company’s gratitude for his leadership of the Medical Careers Carousel that has done so much to give opportunities to young potential medics.
The citation reads:
“It is with profound appreciation and great pride that the Court has unanimously decided to present you with this Company Commendation, the first of its kind, in recognition of your exceptional service to the Worshipful Company of Barbers.
This commendation has been created to acknowledge contributions of outstanding merit, and it is most fitting that you should be its inaugural recipient.
You are hereby honoured for your exemplary vision, commitment, and tireless leadership in stewarding the Company’s Medical Careers Carousel. Through this initiative, you have provided an inspiring and transformative experience for young people—many from under-represented backgrounds—opening their eyes to the possibilities of a future in medicine.
Your generous dedication of time, energy and expertise over many years has not only enriched the life of the Company but has also left a lasting and meaningful impact on over seven hundred pupils who have passed through this remarkable programme. Your efforts have sown seeds of aspiration and ambition that will bear fruit for generations to come.
The Worshipful Company of Barbers expresses its heartfelt gratitude and admiration. Your contributions stand as a model of service, and we are deeply honoured to count you among our members. “
David’s commitment to social mobility through education is further exemplified by his establishment of The Lorraine Simmons Scholarships at Loughborough Grammar School. Named in memory of his mother, a former Matron at LGS, these scholarships currently support four pupils within LGS with plans to support further boys over the coming academic years.
We recently featured David’s decision to support our School in your alumni magazine article ‘A School for Everyone: Preserving our Ethos through Philanthropy’
