Remembrance Services

,

To mark the service and sacrifice of those who served, each school held a Remembrance Service with pupils across the Schools laying wreaths and observing a two-minute silence to reflect on those who gave their lives to serve for their country.

Grammar School pupils and staff came together on the LGS Quad and sang hymns as well as hearing from Mr M Davies who shared the memories of his grandmother who was a nurse during conflict and how she showed compassion to a Japanese General who was killed in action. 472 pupils and alumni and 39 staff fought in the World Wars with 117 losing their lives in the conflicts. Their names are recorded on the war memorial in Hodson Hall and at the base of the trees on the north side of the Quad outside Queens, Barrow and Cope.

The High School also came together on the LHS Quad and remembered Joanna Yorke Dyer (LHS 2001) who was sadly killed in 2007 whilst serving in Iraq, whilst Amherst came together in the Chapel.
