Canon Anthony Lees-Smith (LGS 1995) has been appointed Canon Missioner at Chester Cathedral

,

We are thrilled to announce that Canon Anthony Lees-Smith (LGS 1995) has been appointed Canon Missioner at Chester Cathedral. At his installation in July, Anthony was licensed by fellow LGS alumnus, Bishop Mark Tanner (LGS 1989). What a remarkable coincidence!

In addition to this new role, Canon Lees-Smith has recently completed a Doctorate in Practical Theology at the University of Chester. After six years of part-time research on religious diversity in Leicester, he has successfully passed his viva and expects to graduate in November.

Anthony was ordained in Ely in 2009 after training for ministry in Durham and has spent the last twelve years as vicar of Evington parish, on the edge of Leicester. During the pandemic, he served as Area Dean for the city and more recently joined the diocesan training team with responsibility for curates. His journey from primary school teacher, accountant, and linguist to church leader highlights his deep commitment to connecting church and community. Anthony has also served as a trustee for a homelessness charity, spiritual adviser to the Lord Mayor, chair of governors at a community school, and squadron padre to the local air cadets.

Congratulations, Canon Lees-Smith!
